The mysterious symbol in Yellowjackets recurs both in the wilderness and back home. Also, its unknown meaning and power still terrify the survivors 25 years later. Yellowjackets season 1 ended with many mysteries still unsolved. So one of the most significant unanswered questions is the true meaning of the symbol found in the wild.
Theories about the symbol’s meaning and why its appearance scared the girls. To have abounded since Yellowjackets began. Each possible answer makes the show’s supernatural story all the more intriguing.
What Does the Yellowjackets Symbol Mean?
Both the cult and the girls’ time in the forest have something troubling that connects them. The symbol or rune pops up everywhere. It was on the postcards that they sent to the adult Yellowjackets to scare them. It’s on jewellery the cult members wore and Travis made one the day he died. The survivors of the plane crash first see the symbol carved in a tree near the cabin where they find refuge. And it was carved into the floor of the attic.
The symbol itself resembles a stick figure of a girl. Someone stabbed it on a hook and flipped it upside down. The show has yet to say what exactly the symbol means, but fans have lots of theories.
Some have guessed it’s supposed to be “hobo code.” Homeless people historically have used coded drawings to pass the information along to each other. Also, the code was for making to warn people to stay away from that cabin.
Others think the symbol is more directly linked to cannibalism. Some also think it’s a map out of the wilderness. However, some sort of equation would help the survivors find civilization. Another theory speculates there is some dark, evil force in the woods and the symbol is protected from it.
Origin of the symbol in Yellowjackets
Even though the symbol representing an impaled female figure is by now associated with Lottie’s cult. However, the symbol predates both the crash and Lottie. As we can see immediately after the group crashes into the wilderness. Also, once again, the same symbol is carved underneath the body of a man that the survivors found in the attic of a cabin.
The symbol was in the forest long before Yellowjackets ever wandered into the forest. The previous people associated with the symbol got here by accident or on purpose. What we do know is that the symbol often appears in scenes that seem to imply that there is something supernatural going on.
The symbol represents the way back to civilization
Several Reddit users put together this theory, stating that the symbol represents everything needed for the Yellowjackets to find their way home. Trigonometry, occultations, parallax, and insects, even songs are in the theory. The theory is quite lengthy. Also, it sums up the group’s biggest problem so far. It’s not how to leave but rather where they are.
It’s lengthy, and you might get confused at some moments. I highly recommend you read it. Especially now that Natalie, Ben, and Travis are working on the first map of the area. This theory might prove to be more relevant than ever.
