This document, in a bombshell revelation, has brought in accusations of having sexual relations with one of the minor victims against Alan Dershowitz.
How Is Alan Dershowitz Involved With The Case?
Dershowitz has defended alleged rapists and murderers with a degree of success in the past. He has made a career defending some of the United States’ most controversial figures in court. The famed attorney will now defend himself. This was after he was named in the first tranche of the ‘Epstein documents’ which were unsealed on Wednesday (June 3) night.
The unsealed documents revealed some serious allegations against him. These included the statutory rape of Jane Doe. In a bombshell revelation, the documents also named Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, who has been accused of having sexual relations with one of the minor victims.
What Is Alan Dershowitz Accused Of?
The documents unfolded that Epstein forced then-minor Jane Doe #3 to have a sexual relationship with former Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz. He happened to be a close friend of Epstein. “Epstein required Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with Dershowitz on numerous occasions while she was a minor, not only in Florida but also on private planes, in New York, New Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to being a participant in the abuse of Jane Doe #3 and other minors, Dershowitz was an eye-witness to the sexual abuse of many other minors by Epstein and several of Epstein’s co-conspirators.”
Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement. This provided immunity from federal prosecution in the Southern District of Florida. It was meant to safeguard Epstein and “any potential co-conspirators of Epstein.” Thus, Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement with a provision. This protected him against criminal prosecution in Florida for sexually abusing Jane Doe. Because this broad immunity would have been controversial if disclosed, Dershowitz’s team and the Government tried to keep the immunity provision secret. This was kept out of the knowledge of all of Epstein’s victims and the general public. It was kept a secret even though such secrecy violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act.
What Was Alan’s Defense?
After this release, Dershowitz defended himself by claiming that he was just a lawyer to Epstein and nothing more. Ahead of the unsealing of documents, he had said that he wanted every last document related to Epstein to be released. He claimed that he had done nothing wrong. Dershowitz said, “I had an innocent relationship with the man I didn’t know, nobody suspected, had done anything wrong.”
The Harvard Law Professor accusingly said that he believes that the judge has not put out all the documents. He said he suspects that she was selective in what she put out, and that was unfair. In his defence, he has continued to say, “I want everything out, every document, every piece of paper, half-truths or lies, and I wanted them out for personal reasons because I know that they would prove what I’ve said from day one – that I did nothing wrong.”
Has the accused dropped the claims against him?
The lawsuit against the prominent lawyer by Virginia Giuffre was withdrawn by her earlier. But the recent claims against him have still not dropped. Earlier, she and Dershowitz issued a joint statement. They said the resolution of the lawsuit did not involve the payment of money or anything else. Giuffre said she had “long believed that I was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to Alan Dershowitz. However, I was very young at the time. It was a very stressful and traumatic environment, and Mr. Dershowitz has from the beginning consistently denied these allegations.” The recent claims against him continue.
