British Airways experiences a traumatic festive period as a crew member drops dead in front of their eyes. A crew member, believed to be aged 52, collapses while waiting for take-off from London Heathrow Airport. The crew member was on duty inside the plane for Hong Kong. The pilot requested medical help immediately. Passengers came forward for help and tried their best. The steward reportedly died in the plane.
The doors on BA Flight 32 had already been locked. The pilot asked permission to push back and head onto the runway. This was when the person was believed to have fallen to the floor to the passengers’ shock. A passenger trained in first aid tried to save the man as the pilot urgently called for medical help. The steward died at the scene. The flight was delayed until the following day with different pilots and crew in charge.
A source said: “Crew are frantic. These were two healthy people who suddenly dropped dead. There were no reported underlying health issues.” The crew were family men, leaving devastated families in shock and disbelief. It was a traumatic festive period for the entire British Airways flying team.
A second BA steward died in the US on December 23. He was 52 years old. After his sudden death, the flight from Newark to London Heathrow was cancelled. The passengers re-booked onto later flights. Colleagues had raised the alarm when he had failed to report for duty. Later, the crew members were all flown home as passengers as they grieved.
It reportedly happened on New Year’s Eve. Flight 31 prepared to leave London’s Heathrow Airport on a 12 1/2-hour international flight to Hong Kong. The plane doors were already shut, preparing for pushback, when the 52-year-old suddenly collapsed.
The source said the airline later announced that the flight would be cancelled due to a “medical emergency.” The London Ambulance Service said in a statement that despite the best efforts of the crew, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.
British Airways, expressed themselves to a source “ Our thoughts are with our colleague’s family and friends at this difficult time.” Considering the two crew members, none of them have underlying health problems. The British Airways flying team is going through a testing time amidst this festive period.
