Colorado-based startup True Anomaly has successfully raised $100 million in a Series B funding round, spearheaded by Riot Ventures. The investment will propel the development of True Anomaly’s space security technologies, emphasizing the intersection of hardware, software, and AI. Founded in 2022, the startup focuses on enhancing space safety and sustainability for diverse stakeholders. Additionally, True Anomaly contributes to fortifying the United States’ position as a leading global space power, particularly amidst rising competition, notably from China.
True Anomaly’s mission revolves around empowering the U.S. government, its allies, commercial space industry, and partners to conduct secure, resilient orbital operations, ultimately safeguarding life on Earth. Despite its youth, the company has secured substantial funding through a combination of investments and contracts. In April, True Anomaly reported raising $30 million, including $17 million in Series A funding. Notably, the company secured a $17.4 million Small Business Innovation Research contract from the U.S. Space Force in September.
Under the contract, True Anomaly commits to delivering a suite of Space Domain Awareness (SDA) applications leveraging advanced analytics and scalable AI. The applications will support human-machine teaming to enhance efficiency across SDA operations. This contribution is facilitated through True Anomaly’s Mosaic software, an integrated operating system for comprehensive space domain awareness and security.
In addition to software innovations, True Anomaly is engaged in spacecraft development, specifically the autonomous vehicle “Jackal.” Designed for live and simulated rendezvous and proximity operations, Jackal aims to enhance tracking and rendezvous systems. The first two Jackals are set to launch into Earth orbit in the upcoming SpaceX Transporter-10 rideshare mission, where they will undergo testing. True Anomaly envisions deploying thousands of satellites to aid the U.S. military in monitoring orbital objects and activities.
The recent $100 million funding injection marks a significant milestone for True Anomaly, fueling its pursuit of advancements at the forefront of space security technology.
