Joni Mitchell’s obituary has created a stir in the entertainment world, especially music. Contrary to a news report released on Friday morning, which was later retracted, Joni Mitchell is alive and well. The story of the singer-songwriter’s death was published in error.
The Article That Spread The News
The faux report from People Magazine was initially meant as a placeholder and should have been published earlier. The article included editorial notes highlighting missing details that needed to be filled in before it could be officially released.
The abbreviation ‘TK’ in the article, a common journalistic tool, denotes information to come and is employed to create space for forthcoming details, particularly about dates. Despite People Magazine promptly taking down the article, social media had already ignited speculation about the singer’s supposed death.
However, it’s crucial to note that this reaction is not without reason. In 2015, Joni Mitchell was found unconscious in her home after suffering a brain aneurysm, impacting her speech and mobility. This health episode prompted her to temporarily withdraw from performing. The incident underscores the public’s heightened sensitivity to news concerning the iconic singer’s well-being.
Is Joni Mitchell Alive?
The report that spread the news is false, which the magazine claims was published by mistake. Joni Mitchell, a polio survivor, also faced challenges with a self-diagnosed case of Morgellon disease, a controversial condition often perceived by medical professionals as a delusion. The disease involves skin lesions and believing the skin is infested with bugs.
Addressing her health issues in 2021, Mitchell, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at The Kennedy Center and was honoured at the MusiCares awards in 2022, expressed resilience and described herself as a “fighter” with “Irish blood.” Despite uncertainties about a return to live performances, she is currently engaged in reissuing some of her material with Rhino Records, showcasing her ongoing dedication to her artistic legacy.
