SZA recently shared her feelings about Rihanna including their collaboration, “Consideration,” in her 2016 album ANTI. The “Kill Bill” artist, despite the song’s success, admitted feeling initially “frustrated” during an interview with Variety.
In her candid revelation, SZA explained, “I cared so much, and I was so like… just frustrated. I felt like, ‘I’ll never have anything this cool again.’” She elaborated on the emotional turmoil, revealing that the song was a centerpiece for her own album at the time. SZA had even shot a video and was on the brink of releasing it when the decision was made.
Reflecting on her reluctance, she stated, “It was so hard to let go and accept.” However, she emphasized her current perspective, expressing gratitude for the experience and acknowledging that it didn’t cost her anything. SZA recognized the positive outcome, saying, “If anything, I just gained a bunch from it. And I thank god that I made cool music outside of that.”
Addressing the misconception she had at the time, SZA noted, “Again, I don’t know why I just really thought my creativity would just stop, and like this was the pinnacle of what I could make. And she has it, and I’ll just never be anything.”
Since the collaboration, SZA has achieved significant success, evident in her Album of the Year nomination at the upcoming 2024 Grammys, showcasing her continued growth as an artist.
