What was the cause of his death?
Sinéad O’Connor’s son died by suicide in January 2022. The body of the teenager was found in a Dublin suburb. The corpse was found days after O’Connor reported he was missing. At that time, the boy was just 17 years old. Before his death, the celebrity’s son was admitted to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin on suicide watch. It was before he reportedly went missing and died.
When the boy died, the Irish Health Service Executive refused to say anything on the matter to the public. The authorities said that they cannot comment on individual cases when doing so might reveal information about identifiable individuals. They called it a breach of ethics.
Who was Shane Lunny?
Shane was Sinéad’s third child with music producer Donal Lunny. The singer talked about him producing her album and her son in Rememberings. Dónal Lunny produced the album. She wrote that if they had not made this album, they would not have made their beautiful son.
The singer called her children “unusual, intelligent, loving, compassionate, spiritually advanced, funny, worthwhile, hard-working human beings” and mentioned that she “couldn’t be prouder” of them.
In January 2022, the singer’s 17-year-old son (custody of whom she’d lost in 2013) had gone missing. This after being on suicide watch at Tallaght Hospital. Was he mentally disturbed?
O’Connor and Shane had an extremely close relationship with her son. Shane’s mental health issues were well-documented before his death. He reportedly went missing when he was 14 years old. At that time, O’Connor posted a plea for his return. The singer also discussed her fair share of mental health issues publicly. When Shane passed away, she admitted herself to the hospital.
She kept posting worrying tweets about Shane days after his death. This finally led up to her hospital stay. “There is no point living without him,” the bereaved mother tweeted.
“Everything I touch, I ruin. I only stayed for him. And now he’s gone. I’ve destroyed my family. My kids don’t want to know me.”
This post points towards the mental trauma she was experiencing due to her son’s death.
