It is almost here, your big day, your wedding day, but as exciting as it is, organizing a wedding causes relentless anxiety. The unlimited tasks on our plates leave us stressed. In the chaos of preparation, we fail to realize that the glamorous day is a sign of happiness and celebration, not of qualms and nervousness. If you’re living in a western country the preferences of a western bride could be different (to some extent) than the eastern one. When we say eastern, of course, we’re talking about Indian or Pakistani wedding dresses.
We have accumulated the best tips for brides so that they can prepare for the grand event in advance with ease:
1. Hair Appointment
Whether you want your hair dyed or a protein/ rebonding treatment or even a combination of all the above, visit the salon 20 days before the wedding. The time frame works as the treatment settles in your hair as part of the natural appearance, God forbid! if anything goes wrong in the process, 20 days are enough for a complete recovery.
2. Nurture your Skin
We can’t risk a breakout day before our wedding. Prep and nourish your skin with hydrating serums and masks, don’t try anything new which might cause a reaction. Since it’s your wedding day you do not want burned skin, avoid bleaching and the use of chemicals, the rejoinder can be devastating.
3. Plan Ahead
What is the number 1 secret to a hassle-free wedding day? Set up a schedule for the whole day and communicate with your bridesmaids. What time are hair and makeup? What time is the ceremony? Plan everything, not only will it strip you of your anxiety, it will ensure that the happening is ideal.
Here’s a list of things that are a necessity in your purse:
- Safety pins
- Bobby pins
- Tissue paper
- Needle and thread (believe me it comes in handy)
- A bar of chocolate
- Compact powder/blotting paper
- Lipstick
- Eyelash glue
- Pain killer
- Some cash
- And your phone of course with credit
With these few essentials, divert any major catastrophe.
4. Salon Appointment
As we order our wedding dress months before the ceremony, we have to get a salon appointment days ahead as well. Your favorite salon can be jam-packed in the wedding season so save your spot days before. Also, discuss what type of look you want. Are extensions, nails, facials, and mani-pedis included in the package? Be aware that the process can be time taking and set your appointment accordingly, of all the days to be late you don’t want to run late on your wedding day.
5. Wardrobe Check
Check the fit of your own western, or Pakistani clothes and also of groom, bridesmaids, and groomsmen.
6. Make a Checklist
Sometimes we leave little tasks for the final days and end up forgetting them. Counter this easily, make a checklist and write down all the errands in two categories; one for big chores and one for small tasks. One week before the wedding, check off all the errands that have been done and what endeavors are still left. It is a fail-proof mechanism and will save you a lot of embarrassment on marriage day.
What to do on the Wedding Day
The key to an organized wedding is planning. Break down the main events of your wedding, put them in order, and allot generous time to every occurrence. Now add in the nitty gritty details, and fit them in the timeline, make your plan as detailed as possible. A sorted-out outline of the whole day will make you anticipate the big day, not dread it.
1. Take Breakfast
Many people skip breakfast due to the upcoming extravaganza. To keep up your energy for the whole day eat something packed with protein, fiber, and carbs.
2. Last minute Checkups
Send your prudent friend early to the venue to check up on all the preparation and decorations. Even if you have a wedding planner, someone from your bridal party should be there to supervise.
3. Hair and Makeup
The bride should get her hair and makeup done second to last so that she can have enough time to get into her dress.
4. Save Time for Bridal Portraits
Before the ceremony, fit the photographer into the schedule to get ‘first look’ photos and an awesome ‘bridal portrait’. Bridal shoots, family photos, and bridesmaid snaps need a good hour or two, plan accordingly. You do not want to take photos in a haste and then regret the result years after. As the joyful day becomes a memory, the only way we can revive the cheerful moments are with photographs.
5. It is Time for the Ceremony
Celebrate your imperishable union with the love of your life, be in the moment and enjoy worry-free. Even if something didn’t work out the way you wanted it to, it is okay, you gave it your all, and at this very instant nothing matters. You have said your vows and now nothing can break this everlasting bond. Party hard and relish every nanosecond of the day you were imagining since you were a little girl.
The episode that seemed so far away is right around the corner. You have hopes and dreams from the experience but a happy adventure is one that is nonchalant. At the end of the day, you have found your soul mate and that is all that matters. Let go of the pressure, it is a celebration of your timeless love, it is going to be beautiful.
