In recent times, going viral has become a very easy task. But at the same time, it is pretty scary when you need to gauge each and every step cause you never know you might be getting reeled.
At the Los Angeles Conference, Nigel Hayes calls stenographer Debra Bollman beautiful while the microphone was still running and the audience spilt into a burst of laughter. The incident brought her into the limelight. Let’s know more about what happened there.
What Happened at the Los Angeles Conference?
Debra Bollman was a stenographer for the transcription service ASAP Sports based in New York. Her job was to catch all that the coaches and the players said during an interview.
It’s a usual prank by players to use difficult jargon and long unrelated words to confuse the stenographers at the press conference. However, this too was one of those typical ones at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The NCAA player in 2015 hit the headlines when Nigel Hayes attended a press meet confidentially with two of his teammates. He commented on a sports stenographer without realising that the microphone was running.
During the press conference, the sophomore forward for the team, Nigel Hayes commented on Debra. He whispered secretly to one of his teammates that she looked beautiful unaware that the microphone was still on. The player’s words were “God, she’s beautiful.”
To his surprise, not just Debra but everyone present there including the reporters heard him clearly as the microphone was switched on. It took him some minutes to realise his mistake.
But by then the room had already erupted into laughter. The incident made him shy and embarrassed so much so that the player covered his face with his hands upon realising that the comment was audible to the entire room.
The interview continued normally afterwards. Later the player took to his Twitter handle to publicly apologise for what happened. He even threw in a big word for her making it even more amusing.
What Were the Reactions After the Incidents?
The video of the conference went viral and almost instantly brought in reporters to interview Bollman. Her Twitter followers went up from 15 to 900. The stenographer calls it to be fun when the players attempt to trip her up with words as it shows they are paying attention to her.
Before the Wisconsin Conference incident, she lived a simple and humble life away from the spotlight. She caught the attention of the players with her typing speed of 300 words per minute. Like any other day, debra bollman reporter was at her work. Players of the Wisconsin Badgers appeared for the press meet to talk about their game.
Bollman was approached by many media outlets after she was singled out by the Wisconsin player. She went to Inside Edition and FOX studios to tape interviews.
Sophia, debra bollman daughter, found it to be humorous. The lead singer of the band Detour 91 comments that she has been working on getting out there for years and her mother is getting called beautiful by a basketball player. The singer finds the incidents quite funny.
The ASAP Sports stenographer has tasted considerable fame on social media after the Nigel slip-up. She is currently utilising her newfound fame on social media to put forward her daughter’s outstanding singing talent.
