Vivienne Jolie-Pitt is the daughter of former Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Vivienne has a twin brother named Knox. Vivienne is the second biological child of Angelina and Brad. Being a celebrity child, Vivienne was under the media spotlight even before she was born. After Vivienne and Knox were born, their pictures were sold to two leading American lifestyle magazines for a hefty amount.
Vivienne has already made her Hollywood debut with the 2014 film ‘Maleficent.’ Angelina and Brad got married in 2014 but filed for divorce 2 years later in 2016. Following the divorce, they fought for the custody of Vivienne and her five siblings. The custody case is still on trial. However, according to the new court’s orders, all their six children now live with Angelina, while Brad has been granted permission to visit them.
She was Born in France
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt and her brother, Knox, were born on July 12, 2008, in Nice, France. After the twins’ birth, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, told the Nice-Matin newspaper (via People), “The newborns are, as history shows, authentic Niçois [citizens of Nice].”
Vivienne was given a middle name that holds a particularly heartfelt sentiment. She was named Vivienne Marcheline — the same middle name as Angelina’s mother. This was a way to honour Angelina’s late mother, who died of ovarian and breast cancer in 2007.
In an op-ed for The New York Times, Angelina wrote about how difficult it was to lose her mom. “I lost my mother in my thirties,” she wrote. “When I look back to that time, I can see how much her death changed me. It was not sudden, but so much shifted inside. Losing a mother’s love and warm, soft embrace is like having someone rip away a protective blanket.”
She Starred in Maleficent with Her Mom
Five-year-old Vivienne Jolie-Pitt had the chance to make her acting debut right next to her mom in the 2014 film “Maleficent,” which stars Angelina Jolie as a monstrous fairy set on revenge, and Vivienne as young princess Aurora.
Angelina explained her decision to allow Vivienne in the film, telling Vanity Fair, “We think it’s fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set, but not to be actors. That’s not our goal, for Brad and me, at all. But the other three- and four-year-old [performers] wouldn’t come near me.
It had to be a child that liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv.” Vivienne wasn’t the only one who made an appearance in the movie — her siblings, Pax and Zahara, were both extras in the film.
Her Relationship with her Mom
Vivienne shares a close bond with her mother which can be noticed from their public appearances. Most of the time they are seen holding their arms around each other or holding hands when they venture outside. She is also spotted many times standing next to Angelina during movie premieres, while her siblings are often seen posing on their own.
She is Homeschooled
While the Jolie-Pitt children did attend a French school called Lycée Français for some time, Vivienne and her siblings eventually transitioned into homeschooling (via Romper). Even though Lycée Français has international campuses (which allow the kids to study wherever they happen to be travelling), homeschooling seemed more suited to Angelina and the family’s jet-setting lifestyle. In 2011, Angelina Jolie told the Daily Mail that when the family is travelling, she is “the first person to say, ‘Get the school work done as quickly as possible because let’s go out and explore.”
Angelina has also revealed that she prefers her children to spend time exploring their interests. “I’d rather them go to a museum and learn to play the guitar and read and pick a book they love,” Jolie said (via Daily Mail).
Vivienne has Walked the Red Carpet in Support of her Mom
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt has made appearances at several events in support of her mom’s acting roles, like the “Eternals” premiere in 2021. Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, along with Knox, Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh, all showed up for their mom, each wearing their best formal attire for the red carpet.
Vivienne and her siblings were pleased to see Angelina starring in a Marvel movie. “What’s moving to me is that they want to see me strong, and so it’s less to see me in a film, but they’re just happy I will be strong and having fun,” Angelina said (via People).
But that’s not the only time Vivienne and her siblings have shown up in support of their mom. They’ve also attended the premieres of other films like Disney’s “Dumbo,” “Kung Fu Panda 3” and “First They Killed My Father” (via Us Weekly).
She hasn’t Expressed Interest in Becoming an Actor
Since her role in the 2014 movie “Maleficent,” Vivienne Jolie-Pitt hasn’t taken on any other acting roles. As Angelina said of Vivienne and her siblings back in 2016, “They’re becoming whoever they want to be.” And that doesn’t seem to involve acting (via Newsweek).
“None of my kids wants to be actors, thank God,” Angelina said at the time (via Newsweek). She continued to explain that the kids are more interested in being musicians and learning other languages. However, Angelina would undoubtedly support Vivien if she chose to go into acting.
She has Dealt with Ups and Downs in her Family
According to People, Angelina and Brad met on the set of “Mr. & Mrs Smith” in 2003, and within a few years, the two were dating, becoming one of the hottest couples in Hollywood. They were engaged in n 2012, married in 2014, and divorced in 2016. According to People, Angelina filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences, but in the years following the divorce, several incidents have come out that suggest deeper issues were present.
Divorce isn’t an uncommon occurrence – nearly 50% of marriages in the U.S. end in divorce. Even though it’s common, it doesn’t change the fact that it can be devastating to the people it impacts. Being a child of divorced parents can be a difficult thing to navigate, and Vivienne and her siblings have likely gone through a lot as they’ve learned to adjust to new family dynamics, including being in the sole custody of their mother.
