President Joe Biden departs after delivering his State of the Union address at the U.S. Capitol. A 73-minute speech focused on his administration’s success in the last two years—the challenges he faced, such as a grinding Ukraine war or strengthening the economy after the Pandemic. During his State of the Union Address, he shared his agenda to pull the U.S. out of the crisis. On Tuesday, he discussed his two years of progress and future plans for Congress. A clear path for the next two years was discussed for the nation’s continued growth.
“We are the only country that has emerged from every crisis stronger than when we entered it,” Biden said. “That is what we are doing again.”
Some policy areas focused on during the Joe Biden Union Address Speech are
Economy Growth
The economy was the central element of the speech, which focused on resilience despite persistent inflation and predictions of recession. As per the speech, roughly 12 million jobs were created during his administration’s last two years. He was able to create employment due to his decisions to invest in manufacturing and infrastructure. Such investments led to job creation leading to growth in the economy.
Reducing Health Care costs
Healthcare affordability is the focus of Biden, which he highlighted with the Inflation Reduction Act launched last year by his government. The act helped in the reduction of Obamacare premiums and drug price negotiation. The bill failed to include an insulin price cap in the act due to Republican opposition.
“There are millions of other Americans who are not on Medicare, including 200,000 young people with Type I diabetes who need this insulin to stay alive,” Biden said. “Let’s finish the job this time.”
Covid Control
As per the Biden reports, his government fought the Covid pandemic saving thousands of lives. The administration’s policies impacted public health resulting in Americans being able to live a safe life with the Coronavirus. The virus is still there, but his administration works round the clock to keep it under control.
America’s Defense of Ukraine
His government can keep the global coalition intact. The opposition was skeptical about continuing aid to Ukraine, but our government clarified it. Biden addressed the Ukrainian ambassador: “We are united in our support for your country. We are going to stand with you as long as it takes.”
Biden briefly addressed the downing of the Chinese Spy balloon with a clear message: “if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country.”
Policing Reform Bill
Biden mourned the death of child Tyre Nichols by acknowledging his parents present in the audience. Biden said there are “no words to describe the grief of losing a child.” He urged Congress to pass a policing reform bill on hold for the last two years.
Immigration
Biden criticized Republican border policies in his speech, which led to increased human smuggling of fentanyl trafficking across the border. He requested the policymakers to pass comprehensive immigration reform to secure the border. The government also needed to focus on citizenship for DACA recipients, workers, and those in the country on temporary status.
