Jimmy Carter’s life lasted a century and then he had to spend around a year of his final stages of life in hospice care.
Nobody ever thought that Carter would be elected President someday, or he would be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize or that he would beat cancer. But, practically he did all of it and in the same way, it was expected that he would beat this rough phase when he was in hospice care, but unfortunately, this time the thing happened which nobody thought.
When people got to know about Jimmy being under hospital care, they thought he would be fine in sometime as he had been before in his life, but out of no expectation it turned out to be the final phase of Jimmy Carter’s life.
One year ago, Jimmy was brought to hospital care with the hope that he would be perfectly alright and would be able to spend the final days of his life in the comfort of his home. But life and nature had other plans for him. And his life, which lasted for almost a century, ended.
Mr. Carter is the only president to have lived for 99 years. When he was under hospice care, people generally live for sixteen to seventeen days after that, and only 6% of the whole lot of people cross that limit, among which Jimmy was the one to live for around one year after being under hospice care.
If a person is prescribed to be under hospice care, then it is considered that the patient’s condition is so severe that he is expected to live for no more than six months. In such a situation, hospice care is recommended so that the patient dies peacefully, and his or her friends and family also try to be at ease when it comes to taking care of the patient’s health.
Carter’s long-time friend Jill Stuckney, who used to visit him often when he was in hospice care, said that Carter was a great man who has broken records as the longest living president and also the longest married president. He also said that Carter lived his life on his own terms, followed his feelings, and, in the very same way, would die on his own terms only.
Jonathan Alter is the author who has written Jimmy Carter’s biography, His Very Best. He said about Jimmy that once Jimmy told him that many people consider him to be a weak man, a weak president. But Alter wanted to tell the world that Jimmy Carter was not a weak man at all; rather, he was one hell of a tough man.
Jimmy Carter was diagnosed with cancer in 2015
Alter also revealed that, when Carter was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, then also he was affirm about it and was calm enough, thinking it to be God’s plans for him. This is a sign of no less than a tough man who had got the guts to accept the fact that he might die due to a severe disease. Jonathan added to his words by telling that Carter was very ambitious as well. He had high ambitions and was eager to work, no matter the time and the position he was at. He always aimed to be at a higher spot in life.
Jimmy Carter spent the final chunks of his life away from the public’s eye of attention in the plains, where he had his house for more than six decades. The last time Carter was noticed in public was at the demise of his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died at the age of 96. Carter was seen at his wife’s funeral, after which he isolated himself from the public and the world beyond. Jimmy Carter was married for 77 years.
At the funeral of his wife, Jimmy looked frail and dull. There were many factors for such a condition,, which included the sorrow of separation from his partner, his wife, and, secondly, age and cancer, which were the reasons Carter was seen in a wheelchair at the funeral of his wife, the last time he was seen in public.
The death of Jimmy Carter is considered a national loss for many of his close friends, and he will always be remembered as a great president who lived his life to the fullest and set examples for others.
