Jason Statham wants to play an action hero rather than picture him as a superhero character. The action movie icon has explained why he shows no interest in playing superhero characters. The genre is still the most dominant one in Hollywood and blockbuster filmmaking.
Statham has spoken about how he has no appetite for wearing those tight-fits and caps and flying around on wires. He rather reveals his plans to move forward with action movies. He wants to continue to wave the flag for “old-school” 80s action movies.
With the takeover of comic books and superhero movies, Statham has been rumoured and suggested for several different roles that will see him sport garish outfits. From the Marvel superhero Union Jack to the violent vigilante The Punisher, Statham would undoubtedly suit several roles from the worlds of DC, Marvel, and more. The role that Statham has most often been put forward for by fans is that of the Marvel supervillain Bullseye.
The character of Bullseye is a highly-skilled, psychopathic assassin and the mortal enemy of Daredevil. It has been made to the big screen twice, once played by Colin Farrell in the 2003 movie and then again by Wilson Bethel in the Netflix Daredevil series. The role never saw Statham playing it with sportiness, even when he fits it well. As the star says, it is unlikely that comic book fans will ever see the action star join the MCU or DC ranks.
Statham will continue his action-hero legacy in style. He is all set to hit the big screen with the upcoming The Beekeeper. It will be directed by David Ayer and written by Kurt Wimmer. The Beekeeper stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Ali Asghar Shah, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons alongside Statham.
