When replacing a truck’s water tank, you need to be careful with the process. The first and foremost thing you need to realise is that you will work with different truck parts. Although it takes a lot of care and consideration, the process of replacing plastic water tanks for trucks is not as complicated as it may seem. If you have the proper tools, skills, and knowledge, replacing a water tank on a truck is a pretty easy task.
The main thing to remember is to make sure the tank is empty before beginning the job; this will help prevent any leaks during installation.
Removing an Old Tank
You will need to remove your old water tank before installing a new one. The water tank has its tank stand bolted to the truck’s frame. You will need to remove this part before you can do anything else. You’ll also need to remove the cover and drain the tube from the bottom of your truck’s cab. Once you’ve removed these components, you can use a screwdriver to loosen the nuts and remove any fittings that hold your old tank in place from your truck altogether.
You will need tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchets and hammers for this job, as well as some extra fuel in case any leaks are found during the removal.
Installing A New Tank
Once your old water tank has been removed from your vehicle, you can begin installing a new one in its place. First, screw in four long bolts through each side of your new tank into each hole in which they were previously installed to secure it permanently. Next, tighten these down screws using an extension wand or socket wrench set until they’re snug against each other. You’ll also need chemicals like a drain opener and degreaser to remove grease from all types of surfaces to get at least extra space for the new components.
A pry bar will help if there are any rusted bolts or screws that refuse to budge. You’ll also want something flat such as a metal paddle, so you can push against things without scratching them up too much, especially when using chemical cleaners like bleach or acetone.
Choosing Your New Tank
There are two types of water tanks available in the market: full-size and quarter-size. A full-sized water tank can hold up to 50 gallons of water, while a quarter-sized one can hold up to 25 gallons of water. When it comes to replacing a water tank on a truck, most people will want to use either steel or aluminium tanks due to their strength and durability.
However, if you need something lighter, then plastic would work better for you. Once you have determined what material is best suited for your needs, then it’s time to remove your old tank from under your vehicle’s hood.
