K-pop enthusiasts are on the edge of their seats as (G)I-DLE, the acclaimed girl group, teases their highly anticipated comeback with the second full-length album, ‘[2]’. The recently dropped album trailer has set the stage for a musical spectacle, leaving fans counting down the days until the release on January 29, 2024.
In a musical landscape dominated by the “big three” record labels in South Korea, (G)I-DLE has emerged as a powerhouse from outside these realms. The group, consisting of members Soyeon, Minnie, Miyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua, has solidified its position as one of the most successful girl groups, breaking barriers and captivating audiences worldwide.
The group’s leader, Soyeon, not only spearheads (G)I-DLE but also takes on the role of the primary songwriter and producer for every song released. This hands-on approach ensures a unique blend of popularity and personal expression in their music.
Soyeon shared insights into their creative process, stating, “I think [we] try really hard to keep the balance between popularity and sharing our thoughts into the music. If I feel like I’m missing something out, then I try to focus and fill in that with other parts of the music or the concept. At the end of the day, I want to make sure that we put out something that people would like. We try to keep it balanced by utilizing concept images and other elements of production as well.”
Having debuted under Cube Entertainment in May 2018 with the song “LATATA,” (G)I-DLE has come a long way, showcasing a remarkable evolution in their music and stage presence. Soyeon reflected on their debut, stating, “When I watch ‘LATATA,’ maybe because we were so young back then, I felt like we had such a refreshing, youthful energy, but also such a strong ambition of wanting to show the world who we are and what we can do.”
Minnie added, “After five years of working as a (G)I-DLE member, I think I improved a lot.”
As the group gears up for the release of ‘2,’ fans eagerly await the musical journey that (G)I-DLE is set to embark on, anticipating another chart-topping chapter in their illustrious career.
