Personal Life
Particularly after a hate-filled phone chat between Dog and his son appeared online, Dog has been charged with racism. After the event, A&E cancelled his show, but two months later it was reinstated.
Dog the Bounty Hunter has 11 children from five different marriages. He wed La Fonda Sue Darnell in 1972, and the two split in 1977 after Dog was guilty of murder. Of course, she got custody of their two kids. In 1982–1991 he wed Lyssa Rae Brittain, who was his third wife. He married Tawny Marie Chapman in 1988, a year after Chapman had detained her on suspicion of narcotics possession, and she later worked as his secretary. But, they divorced in 2002.
Beth Barmore was the bride in his fifth marriage. Prior to getting married on May 20, 2006, they had an on-again, off-again relationship. Together with Beth, who frequently featured on Dog the Bounty Hunter, they ran the Bail Bonds company. On June 26, 2019, in Hawaii, Beth sadly passed away from throat cancer.
The Capture of Andrew Luster
In June 2003, Chapman’s capture of Andrew Lustre, the heir to the Max Factor cosmetics empire, garnered international headlines. In the midst of his trial, Lustre left the country after being charged with drugging and raping multiple women. Lustre was found guilty on 86 crimes while he was absent. Inexplicably, the two Chapmans are unrelated, and Chapman’s “hunt team” in Mexico consisted of his son Leland and his friend Tim Chapman. Cops arrested the four while en route to the jail to deliver Lustre. They further sent Lustre to California to begin serving his 125-year sentence once the authorities verified his identity.
Bail was declined for the other three men. The men were released on bail after Dog Chapman’s wife, Beth, informed the press. They left Mexico as advised by their attorney, turning themselves into international bail jumpers in the process. The three were captured by U.S. Marshals three years later, just days before the statute of limitations for the crime expired, and detained on behalf of the Mexican government, who had accused them all of deprivation of liberty and illegal bounty hunting. Chapman showed up in court the next day. The men had to wear electronic monitoring devices while out on bond.
Career
His appearances on Take This Job and Dominick Dunne’s Power, Privilege, and Justice are noteworthy. In 2004, A&E aired his programme Dog the Bounty Hunter. It discussed Dog’s and his allies’ capture of offenders and bond jumpers. In 2012, after eight seasons on the air, the programme was cancelled. CMT said in September 2012 that Dog and Beth: On the Hunt, a new television series, has been ordered.
The format of the new show was used, and it starred Chapman, his wife Beth, and their kid. They were once again working together on the new programme after his son quit the old one in 2012. After three seasons, it was discontinued in 2016. Dog and Beth appeared in the 2019 spin-off Dog’s Most Wanted, which ran for one season.
He wrote two books, one of which, his autobiography You Can Run but You Can’t Hide, got published in 2007. It debuted at the top of the New York Times bestseller list. The dog has made numerous appearances in episodes of other TV shows, such as Hollywood Squares, My Name Is Earl, Hawaii Five-O, and others.
