Airbnb, a popular rental site has come up with a few travel predictions for the year. And you know what’s the biggest prediction? The biggest prediction is everyone going small in 2020. According to Airbnb’s 2020 travel trend survey, 57% of Americans would like to spend their money on experiences more than on buying things. 37% of Americans say they are planning to increase their spending on experiences in 2020.
Additionally, 32% of travelers want to visit historical places, 30% of them want to spend their time outdoors and 46% of them want to take a short trip using their vehicle.
1. Travelers are focusing more on clean and conscious eating while travelling
Ahead of 2020, everyone is planning to go vegan at least on vacation. As per Airbnb, experiences that include vegan options are seeing incredible growth in supply at 579%. On the other hand, those with vegetarian options are witnessing a 570% growth. Overall, culinary travel remains popular on the platform with 35% of Americans saying they want to spend most of their time enjoying food experiences while on vacation. Now, all they want to find a food-focused tiny house in the wilderness and we’d be all set.

2. Travelers want to take history-centered trips
The survey by Airbnb found that 32% of Americans would love to learn more about history and culture in 2020. On Airbnb, History Experiences have increased 271% in supply and 116% in booking globally. Home listed on Airbnb featuring specific historic keywords has also already been booked 50,000 times for 2020.
3. Travellers want to spend most of their time outdoors
Survey also shows that travellers are interested in connecting with nature on their vacations. 30% of Americans say they want to take more outdoor trips and have more natural experiences. Also, “Nature” is amongst the top trending experience category which has witnessed a growth of 103% year over year, Airbnb explained.

4. Travelers will embark on shorter-term journeys
Many people are willing to take shorter trips in 2020 with slower forms of transport which means a reduction in emissions and carbon footprint in the process. As per Airbnb, over half of Americans want to spend money embarking on a long weekend trip, most of the people are travelling through their personal vehicles with searches for listing that possesses free parking increases by 46%.
5. Travelers prefer to spend their money more on experiences than things
As per the Airbnb’s 2020 trend survey, 57% of Americans say that they prefer to spend their money on an experience rather than on buying things. It means they will likely spend less on paying huge rent and more on shared activities. Additionally, 37% of Americans say they are planning to increase their spending on experiences in 2020.
