How to Wash A Car

You can hand wash your car for a variety of reasons. You may want to save a little money or not trust the auto wash at your neighbourhood gas station. Here’s how to take good care of your car by washing yourself.

Essentials for A Do-it-Yourself Car Wash

  • Car Soap: The gentler, the better with vehicle wash soap. Although it’s not advised, several people frequently wash their cars at home with dish soap. A car-specific soap, like Armor All Car Wash, Mr. Pink Super Suds Car Wash, or Meguiar’s Gold Class Car Wash, is what you should use instead.
  • Hose – Although it is feasible to wash your car without a hose, it is much simpler to do so, particularly when thoroughly rinsing the vehicle.
  • Microfiber towels and car washing mitt – Avoid using conventional cleaning sponges on your car to clean it; you risk scratching the paint or finish. Use a soft item like a microfiber cloth or a special mitt made for at-home auto washing.
  • Separate wash buckets- You’ll require two buckets, possibly three. The water in your first bucket will be clean and soapy, and the water in your second bucket will be plain water for rinsing your rag or mitt. You want to avoid repeatedly dipping your rag into the same water bucket and reapplying dirt to the vehicle. Since there will be much more dirt on your car’s wheels than on most other parts, a third bucket may be handy for rinsing after wheel washing.
  • Scrubbing brush or sponge– Use a harsher brush or sponge to scrub the wheels, the trunk, the floor mats, and other areas of the vehicle. It might make it simpler to remove mud and filth.
  • Glass Cleaner– You’ll need glass cleaner for your car’s windows and windscreen. Make sure the brand, like Sprayway, is ammonia-free.
  • Vacuum with a hose– A typical household vacuum can be used for this phase if there is a plug close to where you will be cleaning the car.
  • Optional– Waxing and headlamp restoration kits are optional.

How to Hand-Wash Your Car

  1. If you can, try to find a shaded area. Your car wash will be more challenging because soap dries out quickly, and water evaporates in direct sunlight.
  1. Start by soaking your car. To get rid of bird droppings, dirt, and debris, spray your car off with a hose or pour water on it.
  1. Start with the wheels first. Start with the area of the automobile that is filthy. Use a different brush or sponge to work on the hubcaps and other unpainted areas of the car. Remember the front and back bumpers too.
  1. Hand-wash your car’s body. With the towel or mitt and the warm, soapy water bucket, gently clean your automobile while periodically rinsing it in the rinse bucket. Since the soapy water will drop as you wash your automobile, start at the top and work your way down. After that, thoroughly rinse everything with fresh water.
  1. Utilize your microfiber towels to dry your car.
  1. Clean the windows and windscreen of your car. Your car’s windows and windscreen should first be wiped dry of any excess water before being sprayed with a glass cleaner. With a fresh cloth, wipe them away, careful not to leave any traces. Remember to clean your windscreen wiper blades!
  1. Your headlights should be cleaned. You should spend money on a cleaning kit, which you can purchase at your local auto shop or on Amazon if your headlights appear cloudy and yellow. To prevent the cleaning agent from getting on other areas of the automobile, you should tape masking tape over your headlights. Apply any protective finish the kit includes, if it has one, after cleaning the headlights.
  1. Wax the exterior of your car. This is the perfect time to utilize your waxing kit if you have one. Use a damp microfiber towel to dab spray wax into a specific area of the car for the simplest application. Use a dry portion of the towel to buff the area, and then carry out the same procedure on the following area of the car’s exterior.
  1. The car interior should be cleaned. Vacuum the whole interior of the car—the seats, the floors, and all the crevices that may have gathered dirt—while they’re out. Take out the floor mats and thoroughly spray them; they can easily dry in the sun. Don’t re-put them into the vehicle while they are still wet.
