Holidaying by the sea has a charm of its own. It’s a lovely way to create beautiful, life-long memories with your friends and loved ones. But the sea is vast, and beaches can often be congested with tourists. So, be alert to maintain the safety of your loved ones and to make the most of your limited time by the sea.
Here are seven tips to uphold your safety and have a fun time at the beach.
1. Boat Safely
Boating accidents can happen due to excessive drinking, catching fire, falling overboard, speeding, etc. Take care that when you boat, you do it responsibly. But sometimes, accidents happen even when you’re the one doing everything right. In the unfortunate event of such an accident, once you’ve looked after the medical needs, take notes and contact a good law firm such as Romanucci & Blandin.
A good boating and transportation litigation firm will have the expertise and the experience to remain meticulous in their preparation for a lawsuit, and to see to it that justice is served.
2. Look for the Safest Time
Study the beach that you intend to visit to find out the safest time to spend in the water, whether there are rip tides, tidal variations, and temperature of the water. Preferably, go to a beach that has an active lifeguard at all times. Choose the spot that is known to be safe, locally. Find out about the flags on the beach. It is a good idea to stay between the red and yellow flags if you’re swimming or stay between the black and white flags if you’re surfing.
3. Swim Safely
When you head out into the water, try to swim so that you’re parallel to the shore, instead of heading out into the sea into the far deeper waters. Float when you’re exhausted, or to take a break. If you know the water is going to be cold and you’re planning to be in the water for a longer time, wear a wetsuit. Don’t dive into the water from a height. There could be hidden rocks or hard objects just under the surface.
4. Be Prepared for the Beach
Don’t forget to apply sunscreen at regular intervals. Even if you’re heading into the water, make sure you have the sunscreen on. Hydrate regularly. It can be tempting to forgo drinking water on the beach, but not taking in fluids can lead to dehydration and even fainting.
5. Keep Your Valuables Safe
When you’re away from home, you need to make sure you have your money, phone, bank cards, passport etc., are safe at all times. Keep the non-urgent belongings safely locked in your hotel room, or with a trusted person designated to look after the belongings. You can even take turns at guarding all your essentials. Some places also offer lockers for guests’ belongings.
A sea-side holiday is your chance to catch some glorious sun and relax with your friends and loved ones. Take the above precautions to make the most of your beach holiday.
