Twitter is going to relaunch the process of account verification. This process will start early next year. Also, the active users will be able to get the ‘blue verified badge‘. This program ran on Twitter three years ago but after negative feedback that said that it is confusing people, Twitter stopped it. But again, the new verification will start on January 20th, 2021. This policy has got refined by the inputs from thousands of Twitter users. So on November Twitter confirmed relaunching the policy. Know all the details about it here.
When will the new policy take effect?
The applications will begin sometime in early January 2021. But the new policy of blue badge verification will come into effect on January 2oth. Furthermore, the company will start to take off the verification badges from the accounts that are inactive.
What are the changes in the new Twitter policy?
The first change in the Twitter policy is that an account has to be eligible and has to meet the requirements set by Twitter to get the blue badge. There will be more defined categories for the users to get the verification badges. Twitter will introduce new guidelines for the users to follow the Twitter policies to get the Blue badge and not lose it. So the users have to follow the rules to retain the blue badge or else they can lose it or their account can get deactivated.
The new category will consist of the addition of Government officials and others like brands, media outlets, non-profit organisations, companies etc. The category has become broader by the inclusion of organisers, activists and influential figures. Twitter also has assured its users of broadening the categories even more in the future.
Moreover, in the next year, Twitter has planned to introduce a feature to label the accounts. For instance, if a user has died then a label will get added to the account to notify it. They are creating a way to memorialize the accounts in 2021. They are also going to label automated accounts.

In a blog post, Twitter revealed that the human-run accounts have to abide by the new policies to get the verification badge. The account has to have verified phone number, email address, profile image and profile name. The company will even notify the users if they do not follow the new policies.
Under the policy, Twitter has the right to remove any account that violates it. They will continue to check the accounts by the case by case basis also.
What should the users do to get verified?
The Twitter users can get their accounts verified by applying for it. Twitter will release a new “self-serve application process” in the app in 2021. It will help the applicants to choose a category for verifying the account. Then they can confirm their identity through it to get verified.
