The term ‘VSCO Girl’ is used to describe female teenagers who dress and act in a certain manner that is virtually indistinguishable from one another, both online as well as in real life. Wherever you’ll see this hashtag #VSCOgirl on Instagram. It has been used on more than 1 million posts; the aesthetic is mostly that of a colourful and beachy lifestyle.
Some of the photos are of homemade friendship bracelets, while others show young girls posing in front of nature.

One 15-year-old YouTuber “Caiti DeCort” has described the trend as ”basic”. The term, and the accompanying lifestyle, is also largely exclusionary, as BuzzFeed writer Lauren Strapagiel points out that “VSCO girls are, by and large, white, thin, and have enough money to buy the various high-end items the trend includes”. She runs a YouTube Channel named Caiti’s Corner.
What do VSCO girls wear?
Do you know what’s the most common thing about VSCO Girl is? It is their funky and cool outfits, which often consist of clothing and accessories from the same brands. Their look is mostly described as beachy or laid-back and is usually created with clothing from stores such as Brandy Melville or Urban Outfitters.
The best part is this look is commonly observed amongst white girls and with very minimal makeup. They usually accessorize themselves with scrunchie hair ties, puka shell necklaces, Hydro flask water bottles, and either Crocs, White vans or Birkenstock shoes.

In her video, she has shown the viewers how to dress like a VSCO girl and then capture the perfect Instagram photo, which she then edits using the VSCO app. Well amid all this, the popularity of VSCO trend or VSCO girls on Instagram has also resulted in a large meme culture, where the identity is mocked for its lack of distinctiveness.
