1. China Baowu Group
China Baowu Group, also known as Baowu, is a state-owned enterprise based in Shanghai, China. It produces a range of steel products, including hot and cold-rolled steel, steel wires, and various forms of steel plates.
2. ArcelorMittal
ArcelorMittal is a multinational corporation with operations in over 60 countries, and its headquarters are in Avenue de la Liberte, Luxembourg. It was founded in 2006 through the merger of Arcelor and Mittal Steel and employs 230,000 people. ArcelorMittal produces 10% of the world’s steel, primarily for the household, packaging, automotive, and construction industries. Of the total steel produced globally, 47% is produced in Europe, 35% in America, and the remaining 18% is produced in other regions (Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and South Africa).
At the start of the merger, this international steel manufacturing company announced 35 transactions across the globe. It kept on investing, announcing deals in Australia, France, South Africa, Canada, Brazil, Turkey, Costa Rica, Sweden, Venezuela, the US, and the United Arab Emirates.
3. Ansteel Group
Founded in 2010 through the merger of Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corporation, the company offers a wide variety of steel products, such as stainless steel, hot-rolled coils, cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheets, and colored-coated sheets. Its seven production bases are located in China.
4. Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC)
Founded in 2012 in collaboration with Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal, NSSMC is the world’s second-largest steel supplier, employing approximately 83,000 people and operating in 15 countries. It supplies steel to industries including construction, automotive, civil engineering, energy, resources, and railroads.
5. Hebei Iron and Steel Group Company
The Hebei Iron and Steel Group Company Limited was established in 2008 and is a state-owned enterprise based in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, People’s Republic of China. With an annual capacity of 30 million tonnes of steel, HBIS is China’s largest provider of steel, primarily producing wire rods, cold-rolled plates, hot-rolled steel, bars, galvanized plate, welded pipe, and more products depending on the needs of the customer.
6. Shagang Group
Shaganag Group has five production bases distributed around China, with its head office located in Zhangjiagang (Suzhou). The company uses an integrated manufacturing process and exports its goods to approximately 100 countries.
7. Baosteel
Among the world’s biggest suppliers of steel, Baosteel Group Corporation was established in 1978 and has its headquarters in Pudong, Shanghai, China. With 130,401 workers, the company produces steel products like carbon steel, stainless steel, and special steel that are exported to over 40 countries. It serves industries including automotive, petrochemical, transportation, nuclear power, home appliances, metalworking, energy, and the manufacturing of machinery, electronic instruments, and astronautics.
8. Wuhan Iron and Steel Group
Known as China’s first supergiant steel and iron complex, Wuhan Iron and Steel Group Corporation was founded in 1958 and has its headquarters located in Wuhan, Hubei, People’s Republic of China. The company offers silicon products, cold-rolled products, hot-rolled products, profile products, plate products, and wire rod products, among other products.
9. HBIS Group
Located in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China, this state-owned enterprise produced 41 MT of steel in 2022. The company’s product line included steel wire rods, cold-rolled plates, hot-rolled sheets, bars, galvanized steel, and steel pipes, among other steel items.
10. Tata Steel
Tata Steel is a prominent steel company in India that was founded in 1907 and has since expanded to operate in over 25 countries. Its largest plant is situated in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and its Kalinganagar plant is part of the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network for the application of Industry 4.0 technologies.
