The NBC Christmas special is ready to take you by surprise. Consecutive, live holiday extravaganzas—one unfolding in the heart of New York City, showcasing the traditional annual tree lighting ceremony, and the other set against the iconic backdrop of Memphis, a renowned locale adding its unique flair to the festive celebration.
After spending 80 years in Vestal, New York, and making a nearly 200-mile journey to New York’s Rockefeller Plaza, an impressive 80-foot Norway spruce is set to be featured tonight. According to “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” host Kelly Clarkson, the tree is described as “just majestic,” she mentioned that its true enormity becomes apparent when standing right next to it.
Clarkson conveyed her enthusiasm for hosting the tree lighting this year, mentioning that she couldn’t overstate her excitement and was very stoked about being the host of the event. She also noted that similar to last year, she will have a close-up view when the tree’s 50 thousand multicoloured lights are illuminated.
Elvis Presley held a deep fondness for Christmas, often adorning his surroundings with decorations well in advance and leaving them on display until his January 8 birthday, as noted by Graceland.com. This cherished tradition continues to be upheld at the Graceland estate in Memphis more than four decades after Presley’s passing.
In a festive gesture to welcome the holiday season, numerous musicians have congregated in Elvis’ festively adorned home to commemorate his love for Christmas and deliver performances of his iconic music.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the lineup for “Christmas at Graceland” included a diverse array of musicians:
- Post Malone
- Lana Del Rey
- Lainey Wilson
- The War and Treaty
- John Legend
- Alanis Morissette
- Kacey Musgraves
- Kane Brown
Most of these artists specialise in rock, country, and pop genres; interestingly, many have previously showcased their talents by performing Elvis songs. Kane Brown, for instance, recently released a duet rendition of “Blue Christmas,” while Post Malone paid tribute to Elvis alongside Keith Urban in 2019. During the same tribute, John Legend presented his rendition of “A Little Less Conversation.”
