Finding your exact position on a map is remarkably very simple in Google Maps. Even the direction you’re facing is displayed so you can see where you’re going.
Here is how to use Google Maps on a desktop or mobile phone to see my location without any hesitation. You can easily use Google Maps on your phone, tablet, or computer to find out where you are right now by following some easy instructions in this article.
How To Use Google Map and Search My Location Using Mobile:
If you want to see my location on your phone or you want to see which direction you have to go, just open your phone (regardless of android or ios) to get the information that you wanted to know.
1. Launch Google Maps on your iPad or Smartphone (Android)
Regardless of what kind of phone you are using, whether it is an Ipad or any smartphone (could be either ios or android), you can get “my location” easily. You may locate it in the app drawer or on one of the home screens (iPhone/iPad) as the map symbol with a “G” in the top-left corner (Android).
- If you have not turned on Location Services, do so by following the prompts that appear on the screen.
- In the default map mode, a map graphic has street names overlaid on it. A satellite or terrain map can be accessed by tapping the two overlapping diamonds in the top-right corner, then selecting Satellite or Terrain.
2. On the Map, Look for the Blue Dot
Do not panic after seeing the blue dot on your map. Always remember the tiny blue circle on the map shows “my location” or in other words where you are right now. The direction you are facing is indicated by the dot’s soft blue cone.
- To display the blue dot right away if you can’t see it, tap the blue and white compass icon on the right side of the map. On an Android, it appears as a spherical target with four protruding lines, while on an iPhone/iPad, it appears as a triangle pointed upward.
- To enlarge the view for a closer look, double-tap the blue dot. To zoom in or out, you can also utilize the pinching motion.
- Use your finger on the map to change it if desired. You can tap the compass at the bottom-right corner to re-center back to your current location.
3. Put a Pin by Tapping and Holding the Blue Dot
After finishing the first two steps, now you have to put a pin by pressing the blue dot for a while. As soon as the red pushpin crosses the blue dot, you can lift your finger. And right after this, you will see a panel with location-specific information.
4. Tap the Dropped Pin Panel and Swipe Up
Depending on the size of your screen, it is either at the bottom or side of the map. By doing so, the map is enlarged to show details about your location, such as your street address (which is displayed at the top) and your latitude and longitude coordinates (near the bottom)
How To Use Google Map and Get My Location on the Computer:
Checking my location on the computer is much easier than using a mobile phone or any other technical device. You can see my location whenever you are using a Mac or a windows personal computer. You just simply have to follow these instructions to get the desired results.
1. Open any Web Browser to go to https://maps.google.com
You can go to any current web browser, including Safari, Chrome, and Edge, and can be used to confirm our location in Google Maps.
2. Select the White and Blue Target Icons
The location is on the map’s bottom right. Your present location, which will be indicated with a blue dot on the map, will then be re-centered.
- You’ll see a message advising you to enable Location Services right away if you haven’t done so already. This is how:
- Toggle the first two switches on the right panel to the On position in Windows by selecting Start > Settings > Privacy > Location.
- To enable location services with safari on macOS, select Safari from the Apple menu, then select System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Location Services.
3. Using Your Mouse, Right-Click the Map’s Blue Location Pixel
After following the first two instructions correctly, all you have to do is just right-click the map’s blue location pixel. It will automatically allow the Contextual menu to appear.
4. Using the Menu, Select What’s Here?
A box at the base of the map shows the address and latitude/longitude of your current position.
5. Click the URL to Learn More
After doing all these you can click the URL to know more about it. It is located at the base of the map. By doing so, the left-hand panel on the page expands to reveal more options for sharing and saving information.
How to Increase My Location Accuracy on Google Maps
Sometimes despite using all those methods, Google maps can still not detect my location properly. To make sure that you are always getting accuracy, use these methods to boost it up.
- If Maps doesn’t precisely display your position, you might want to calibrate it so that it can. On your phone, use the Google Maps app to perform this action.
- On your phone, first, open the Google Maps app. Tap “Your Position” after which you should tap the blue dot that indicates your present location.
- Tap “Calibrate” in the “My Location” option that appears.
- You will need to tilt and move your phone to use Maps. Repeat this procedure up until the “Compass Accuracy” number rises above the current “Low” level. Once done, click on the “Done” option to exit the tool.
- Congratulations, you have successfully checked my location from Google maps and now you are good to go.
